In this day of green awareness, we are not alone. The 70's may have brought us an awareness of our environment, but the new century has brought us the ability to act upon it. Green building has gone mainstream. Environmental and cost-effective methods are no longer mutually exclusive as technology and market prices have brought green innovations to the general public. Tax rebates and potential energy savings now make energy improvements even more worthwhile. And now manufacturers include information in their marketing that tell the builder how responsible their product is to the environment and to the family living in the home. This allows the owner, designer and builder to take a more active part in the function of their dwelling. Making your new or existing home energy efficient and sustainable is more affordable and practical than ever before. Not only is our house usually the largest investment in our lives, but the home is both how we protect ourselves and how we relate to the world and community beyond us. We need it keep us healthy and happy and to conserve our precious natural resources while consuming the minimal amount of energy. |

Using our advanced training and experience in green methods we can provide you with any level of sustainable improvements. From simple, yet effective, insulation and mechanical system upgrades to advanced energy producing systems even to the extent of living off the grid. We are experienced in high tech methods such as roof top rain water capture systems and recycled greywater from sinks to irrigate and conserve potable water, passive solar systems, wind power, green roofs, geothermal, as well as, super insulated walls such as ICF and SIPS, but even the simplest of energy improvements such as insulation upgrades and replacements, window upgrades, and solar or tankless water heaters all have great impact on your energy costs.
At Ecohouse, we strive to build homes that have lower Volatile Organic Compounds which provide a significantly healthier living environment. We also use products from forests that have responsible stewardship programs. And we reuse and recycle our resources at every opportunity. We manage our construction waste streams and have taught awareness. We use less embodied energy in our products and favored materials that cannot only be recycled but reused. All this, and we have been able maintain a sophisticated style that rivals more exploitative constructive methods.
A home rich with real materials and sunlight can warm our lives. However, modernity would have us believe that cold science and industrial repetitiveness can provide for all our needs. We take a larger view. We believe that our home should be pleasing and natural, full of the things that delight us while retaining a small ecological footprint.
Being green is a living aesthetic, replete with good living and a clean conscious.
At Ecohouse, we are devout to our sustainable beliefs. While we help you create a more sustainable living, we, as a family, are building our own green homestead. We are following the tenets of permaculture, by designing a house so that it functions biologically and ecologically with the gardens and animals around it. We raise our daughter to believe in these ideals as well and to work hard for this earth that we must all share.
